    Koh Similan

    Immerse yourself in clear blue waters, play on peaceful white sand beaches and spend your days discovering the abundant tropical wildlife ecosystems of the Similan Islands. Located 65 kilometers off the coastline of Phang Nga province in southwestern Thailand, and established as a National Park marine reserve in 1982, the Similans are a must for all visitors seeking the adventure and beauty of isolated island landscapes and a stunning underwater world teeming with unique marine life. Named for the Malay word for nine -Sembilan- the formation of nine individual islands are known by both their names and their numbers. In 1998, the National Park was extended to encompass the two neighboring islands Koh Bon and Koh Tachai. World-famous Richelieu Rock and the islands of neighboring Mu Koh Surin National Park are also only a short journey away.
    Characterized by huge granite boulder formations, wooded jungle hillsides and a huge array of both woodland and marine plant and animal species, the islands are an ideal, easy-to-reach destination for dive safaris, sailing and snorkeling trips, hiking and birdwatching. The immense diversity of the islands and marine sites guarantees each and every visitor an unforgettable experience, above and below the surface of the water.

    "Phromthep Cape" A promontory stretching into the sea and forming the farthest south end of Phuket.Tall cliffs offer a stunning panoramic vista and an ideal location to watch a stunning sunset.

    Phuket's Big Buddha has become one of the island's most important and revered landmarks.The image sits on top of the Nakkerd Hills between Chalong and Kata and at 45 metres high it is easily seen from far away. The lofty site offers the best 360 degrees views of the island (think sweeping vistas of Phuket Town, Kata, Karon beaches, Chalong Bay, Cape Phromthep, Ao Makham and more).

    Known among Thais as the Phra Puttamingmongkol Akenakkiri Buddha in full, it is 25 meters across at the base. The whole body is layered with beautiful white Burmese marble that shines in the sun, making it a natural symbol of hope. Though it is not yet 100% complete it certainly is worth a visit as the site, the views and the actual image itself are all breathtaking. On a good day more than 1,000 people visit the site, many of whom donate money for building materials and write messages on the purchased items for good luck and in memory of passed-away loved ones.

    What to Wear

    Avoid beachwear, short skirts and T-shirts with offensive texts or images.If you feel you have dressed a little too daringly for a religious site you can always ask for a sarong to cover up with from the site centre, free of charge.

    Wat Chalong (Temple) is Phuket’s most important Buddhist temple and is the biggest and most onate of Phuket’s 29 Buddhist monasteries.Wat Chalong is associated with the revered monks , Luang Pho Chaem and Luang Pho Chuang, both of whom were famous for there work in herbal medicine and setters of bones, who helped the people of Phuket put down the Ahngyee (miner rebellion) in 1876 during the King Rama V.
